Excellent large biochemical cycles and pathways....highly detailed. Since I am retired, I got interested in nutrition, diet, mitochondria clinical trials, proteinomics, epigenetics, and the metabolism of fats. This encyclopedic book is comprehensive enough to help you start your journey to understand living systems, but it will also make you aware why doctors don't learn nutrition. It is too complicated. It's not practical for their quickie revolving door practice. Get yourself a qualified nutritionist who will educate you about food, exercise, and sleep: the basics of preventive medicine. This book requires an IQ above 135 with a few courses in biology, cell biology, and biochemistry.
This is an excellent book for every biochemist!! Nice explanations and complete diagrams. The only problem is that in the kindle version, the pathways can't scale and the images are blur and too tiny for seeing them...
The atlas presents an excellent overview of the Biochemical Pathways known. The text is only useful for advanced scientists in the field. It is not suited as an introductory textbook for newcomers in the field of biochemistry.
Bad quality printing
Although the print copy of this book is an incredibly thorough and detailed reference on biochemistry, the Kindle edition is not adequate for serious research and reference work. The print aspect of the book is fine, but for reasons I do not understand, the definition on the diagrams is unclear. I could not zoom in on the diagrams, and the larger diagrams were poorly defined and too small to read. Very in-depth and detailed... prob more suited for PhD or advanced PhD studies....
Do not get the kindle version. Other than this.. its a reference text. You aren't meant to use it as an undergrad text, unless you simply happen to have the curiosity to do so. In what it is, and what it is meant to be, it excels. Much like the unabridged Gray's Anatomy is not Netter's Atlas, this isn't meant for any other purpose than the aforementioned..
