Joshua L. Brunty is Assistant Professor of Digital Forensics at Marshall University . Josh holds numerous certifications within the digital forensics discipline including: AccessData Certified Examiner (ACE), Computer Hacking Forensic Examiner (CHFI), Seized Computer Evidence Recovery Specialist (SCERS), Certified Malware Investigator, Certified Steganography Examiner, and is certified by the National Security Agency in Information Assessment Methodology (NSA-IAM). He is a member of the Institute of Computer Forensics Professionals (ICFP), the Mid-Atlantic Association of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA), the Digital-Multimedia Sciences section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), the West Virginia Cyber Crimes Task Force, and the West Virginia Chapter of FBI INFRAGARD.Katherine Helenek holds a Master's of Forensic Science specializing in Digital Forensics, Forensic Chemistry, and Crime Scene Investigation from Marshall University. She is an AccessData Certified Examiner (ACE) and a member of the Appalachian Institute of Digital Evidence (AIDE). She is now a Forensic Examiner with Digital Intelligence.Larry S. Miller is Distinguished Professor and Chair of Criminal Justice and Criminology at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). I was really hopeful that this book would go into more detail rather than just explanations of terms and practices. I was looking for something that would explain in detail how to use social media as a tool for investigations...but it did not. It just talked about how people are using it, defined terms and talked about the future. Useful for my needs. It also had poor formatting. It looked like it was originally made for PDF/electronic use and then haphazardly put into print format.It's a good guide for people that know NOTHING about social media and that want to learn how social media is being used to investigate, but not so much as a how-to guide on going about the actual investigations.
Excellent resource. Very eye opening information. Well written and easy to read. Highly recommended for anyone interested in criminal investigations.
The book is appropriate for a weekend short course CJ refresher. The reference list is good, but without digital links available, they are less than useful.
The material is focused on law aspect... I was looking more on the investigative collection and methods...
it was a good book, but I was expecting more. It have a los of refferences about some cases were social media was crucial.
This book packs a great deal of info into 100 pages of text. Found it to be an easy and quick read. Lots of good case law and investigative methods. It's a great resource for law enforcement tasked with such investigations.

If you are looking to get into investigating social media this book is a great starting point. It touches on some key issues that everyone in law enforcement should understand before getting into an investigation .
