Another wonderful entry into the Undying Mercenary series. McGill once again finds himself in the middle of a military mission which is just the tip of the iceberg for a bunch of political machinations. And once McGill masterfully navigates these treacherous waters. **Small Spoiler: It was funny to see McGill's lecherous tendencies used against him, although in the end the negative results for himself were minimal.** It was really nice to see a lot of the old characters back in action. There were a few new characters introduced, who, though were not bad, I did not find as compelling as McGill's usual crew.A few notes to Mr. Larson:1. I'm a big fan of Floramel. I really like her combination of intelligence and naivete. I know McGill is nowhere near ready to settle down, and his dealings with the various women characters are part of what makes these books so fun to read. However, I humbly request you keep Floramel a part of McGill's life and experiences.2. I also appreciate those father-daughter scenes with Etta. She is another terrific character, and I'd love to see her grow up in the series. Shoot, maybe she could have her own series when she is old enough! Please do what you have to do to keep this terrific series going!

Mr Larson is a gifted writer. I think I an earlier review I might have compared him to the more famous, but not necessarily better, writer Lee Child. I can safely say there isn't a book he has written that I don't like. So, enough of the gratuitous praise.Blood world is another of a series of books featuring McGill, an overaged adolescent in an intriguing future where death is a painful inconvenience for the armed forces of Earth. You do not need to read any of the predecessor books to be able to understand this one but it does help you love the characters more and appreciate their motivation.McGill is now at the rank of Centurion. Yes, old Roman military titles are in use, however this is not a throwback to an alternate timeline in which the Roman civilisation survived. And with the greater responsibility thrust on him McGill is dealing with more mature issues such as a daughter, the problems associated with shagging anything that shows even minor interest and the fate, once again, of humanity. If this all sounds like one of those dreary sci fi pieces most reminiscent of The Bold and the Beautiful or whatever passes for a daytime soap these days, then cease your thoughts of boredom. For this is not that awful thing. This is funny and quirky and certainly worthy of your time.It is however an unfinished tome. But the author needs to fund his next widescreen tv or vacation to the Maldives and a sequel (or a ninth-quell?) satisfies this need and also mine to find out where McGill us going to be and who he's going to do... errrr I mean what... I think.Try it out. It's a fun read and great for the bus, train or a quiet corner.

All i can say is this series continues to delight me. I am constantly waiting for the next one.Bit the BIG QUESTION- why has Claver never been permed? He has broken all the major laws set up by the premise of the series. Poison him, then shoot, stab, and hang him over a roaring fire. Sell tickets to the event!

I like Larson but this series of books has become cookie cutter. Kill, die, revive, repeat. Grab a piece of ass, a sammich, a beer... Find Claver, kill repeat.

Our favorite Varus Legion Centurion, James McGill, is deep in it again. Mr. Larson has created a series that is at turns grim (courtesy of the situations calling for great use of the revival machines), funny due to McGill's cornpone cunning, and slightly sexy as the big old horndog can't seem to help himself. All the usual characters are present in this volume of the series, but it seemed to me that the complexity of the story got dialed back just a notch, making the story flow a little more smoothly than usual. I loved "Blood World" and can't wait for the next book.

I am not sure what it is. I have read quite a few B.V. Larson books but this Undying Mercenaries Series is BY FAR my favorite. I can just not get enough of James McGill.I can see where lots of people might take issue with his antics. I just can't. Maybe not for the real world but for fantasy world he works pretty good. There is just something about this flawed character who has this inner sense of doing the right thing regardless of the cost to him that appeals to me.I am sure I will continue to be a fan of Larson in general but I hope to see this series continue.

You know it's fun time when Larson's new book lands on your lap, er, kindle and you know it's going to be worthy of 5 stars again, no less, provided that you ignore the glaring logic failures here and there. The one most in-congruent part is probably right after laughing my ass off from (spoiler alert) the part about editing Winslade's death flips in continuous loop and McGill happily walked into the officer's mess for no good reasons and had never done before and happily got himself killed. Bah! It took sometime to realize that because I continued to giggle like a little girl and failed to notice it immediately. Then again, won't most of the characters, be it Graves, Tulov or even the old silver got BS'ed like this? But hey, I'm not complaining, more McGill BS please!

Another great book from B.V. Larson. I got both the book and the audiobook so I could read in the evening and listen while I do mindless work. The books are complex, so don't figure you can listen while you are working on something else complex. You'll miss the story. (And no, you are not able to truly multitask; the human brain does time sharing, just like a computer.)
