As a small business owner, I was quite the skeptic before reading this book. I tore through "Hire The Right Virtual Assistant" in two sittings. Page by page, chapter by chapter, the author helped reveal so many blind spots --not just in my business sphere, but also what had evidently led to a bit of disruption in my personal life as well. It all starts with belief, and author Melissa Smith engaged me to rearrange my thoughts and change my limiting beliefs about how to better run my business --and that was to let go, delegate, lead, and trust. To me, the author is very clear about her message and it's very evident that she is a devout practitioner of her own writing. It's to create freedom and to truly be able to enjoy the most important things in life, while making money and running a profitable business. A sensational read, and equally result-based material.
The initial promise of this book lead me to believe that I would actually learn something of substance!But page after page and chapter and chapter seemed to be highly repetitive restating the same basic info over and over, just restated in a different ways to try to mask her original basic info.....So, what is the "basic info" or gist of this book?If you want more time - hire a Virtual Assistant (VA)!And you thought you needed to buy this book?Maybe I missed it, but I failed to see resources of good places to hire VAs, like elands.com or other similar exchanges. Just Google "elance va" and you will find what you need.Sorry, I had high hopes based on the promise of the description of this book, but I recommend you save you money and more importantly save your time reading this book.
This book was quite an eye-opener! Just because business owners CAN technically do things themselves, they should ask themselves if it's really contributing to the bottom line. In many cases, we mistake activity (and minutia) for productivity. That's why Melissa educates readers on exactly WHAT a VA is, WHO they are (as people), WHY they choose their profession, and the hidden value they offer time-starved business owners. I think the most enlightening part for me was the 70/30 rule. It's easy to gloss over this, but she challenges readers to rediscover its significance and how to make it (and a VA) become a competitive advantage. Really enjoyed this book!

Just finished your book.I am looking into the VA world and wanted to read up on the idea before plunging in and making unnecessary mistakes. It was insightful and encouraging. I appreciated the section discussing job descriptions and how to write them. I took your sample and tweaked it for my specific job. It was helpful as an outline of sorts to keep things positive to attract the write candidate to their dream job! Your book was perfect to help paint a picture as to what to anticipate, not to mention how to set the tone right for them and myself. Not only does it create accountability (having a VA) which almost every entrepreneur needs - you'll also get more work accomplished! So it kills two birds with one stone.I finished the book asking myself, why haven't I done this 10 years ago! I can't wait to hire the first VA and get more time to focus on the priority of life.I’ve highlighted several parts of the book and am thankful for the insight provided, definitely worth the money, just wish it was in hard copy.Keep up the good work.
I picked up this book, since I'm always looking for better and more efficient ways to run my publishing business. This is where Melissa Smith's expertise comes to the front and you learn the number one thing needed for a successful hire/experience with a VA is communication. Obvious right? Not so much. She details how to determine if you will work well together and how to go about inquiring for one. The reality is that VA's want a good fit too, so follow here instructions to the letter!This book really opened my eyes up and when I calculated my time spent on each of my three books and how much time would be saved hiring a VA, it is a no brainer!
